No. Preserve-content mode compresses the PDF object structure. It does not resample images or promise a size reduction. PDFs that are already optimized may not shrink. We compare exact byte sizes and return the original whenever the result would be the same size or larger.
Each visible page becomes a JPEG image at 100 DPI and 70% quality on a white background. Text is no longer searchable or selectable. Links, editable forms, document tags, layers, attachments and bookmarks are removed. Fine text and images may look softer. The visible crop and page rotation are baked into the new page. Use preserve-content mode for documents that need these features.
Up to 20 MB and 100 pages; image-only mode supports up to 50 pages, 8 megapixels per rendered page and 40 megapixels total. Embedded image limits are 12 megapixels per image and 60 megapixels total. Image output is capped at 32 MB. Inline image data and unsupported stream formats require preserve-content mode. Processing times out after 3 minutes. Encrypted PDFs, signature fields and dynamic XFA forms are rejected.
