URL Encoder/Decoder
Encode, decode, or parse a URL into its components and query parameters.
About URL Encoder/Decoder
URL encoding (percent-encoding) converts characters that aren't allowed in a URL — spaces, symbols, and non-ASCII characters — into a %XX format so they can be safely included in query strings and paths. This tool uses JavaScript's encodeURIComponent and decodeURIComponent to convert text in either direction. The Parse URL tab breaks a full URL apart into its protocol, host, path, hash, and every query parameter as a readable key-value table — useful for debugging a tracking link, a redirect URL, or an API request without manually counting ampersands.
Frequently Asked Questions
Reserved and unsafe characters like spaces, &, ?, #, =, and non-ASCII characters are converted to their %XX percent-encoded equivalent. Letters, digits, and a few safe symbols (- _ . ! ~ * ' ( )) are left unchanged.
This tool uses encodeURIComponent, which encodes every special character including those used to separate URL parts (like / and &) — the correct choice for encoding individual query parameter values, not full URLs.
Decoding fails if the string contains a malformed percent sequence, such as a % not followed by two valid hex digits.
Paste a complete URL and it splits it into protocol, host, path, hash, and a table of every query parameter with its decoded key and value — the same breakdown you'd otherwise have to do by hand.
