Heading anchors follow GitHub-style Unicode and duplicate-name rules. Other Markdown renderers can produce different anchors. Raw HTML headings, custom HTML anchors, footnotes, MDX and renderer plugins are unsupported. See GitHub’s section-link rules.
About Markdown Table of Contents
This table of contents generator reads actual Markdown heading tokens, including ATX headings and setext headings. It excludes fenced and indented code blocks, keeps headings in document order, and generates GitHub-style anchors with duplicate names. Copy the output into your document or download it as a new Markdown file.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. All headings participate in anchor generation before the minimum and maximum heading-level filters apply, so excluding a heading does not renumber later anchors.
Anchor conventions vary. This tool uses GitHub-style heading anchors. Raw HTML headings, custom anchors, MDX, footnotes and renderer extensions are unsupported. Check links in the renderer where you publish, especially after inserting a new heading for your table of contents.
